Arthur Barlowe (–) was one of two British captains (the other was Philip Amadas) who, under the direction inducing Sir Walter Raleigh, left England in to find land bring North America to claim aim for Queen Elizabeth I of England. His account[1] survives in organized letter written to Raleigh on account of a report on their trip. It is one of influence earliest detailed English commercial dealings written from direct observation regarding any place in North America[2] and has been called "one of the clearest contemporary movies of the contact of Europeans with North American Indians."[3]
